Caring Circle Camp Rocks Out

Caring Circle Camp Rocks Out!
Hospice Care in Westchester & Putnam hosted its 4th Annual Caring Circle Day Camp on Saturday, August 9th, 2008. This year, 51 children attended this one day camp, for children ages 3 – 19 who participate in The Caring Circle Bereavement Programs.
The theme for this year’s camp was “rock-n-roll.” Activities of the day included colorful face painting, swimming, dancing, and a special visit from the ice-cream truck. Long Island based band Squeaky Clean performed some great songs from the 50s, 60s, and 70s that had all the kids up and dancing.
The Caring Circle is a program developed by Hospice Care in Westchester & Putnam designed to help children, teenagers and their families/guardians learn healthy coping behaviors to aid in dealing with the thoughts and feelings associated with grieving the loss of a loved one.
The Caring Circle helps over 150 children each year cope with the loss of a loved one. Age-specific peer groups utilize discussion and activities to provide a safe environment that fosters healthy grieving and promotes healing for both children and adults. The program teaches its participants grief management skills to help cope with the death of a loved one in constructive ways. The Caring Circle provides a forum for children to express their feelings, both verbally and non-verbally in a supportive environment. The groups are ongoing and confidential and participants are invited to attend the support groups for as long as the experience is beneficial. The groups are offered in Yorktown Heights on alternate Wednesdays and in Yonkers on alternate Thursdays.
